This Version Is Even Better !
I bought this book again, in the revised edition, because I got curious of what was the part revised, specially being this revision made in this so controversial year (2019), related to Michael Jackson. So I bought the the simple cardboard version, since I have the Hardcover from 2011. I am very satisfied with this second version, in all aspect ! Relating on the story and history, it’s much completed and contemporary and the Music is all here . Glad to see that Vogel made justice to the truth and took off the so-called Cascio’s Songs. Detailing the reason why he took them off. He is brilliant as usual, an obvious admirer of MJ, but got to be professional on it , by avoiding that his opinions influence too much the whole process of writing about . I’m very glad I decided to buy the new edition of Man In The Music ! Thank You, Joseph Vogel .
Essential to any serious music library.
I have read every book in print about this man. I wanted to satisfy myself that I understood who Michael Jackson was, and I consider this volume to be one of the most important works on the subject. Excellent treatment of the man’s contribution to music and his unique genius. Read this one. Essential to understanding the importance of a global megastar.
I couldn't put it down!
This book is an awesome read! I normally don't put much stock in critics, but this book is a refreshing take as it delves into the process of crafting the music, it's a unique perspective and gives great insight into the genius of Michael. The title really does say it all. I highly recommend this for any MJ fan or music enthusiast.

Are you kidding me???
After starting to read the book,. I have changed my mind in the review. Although I do miss the photos, the insight and writing is beyond amazing. I NOW love this book and highly recommend it to all Michael fans out there.
On the Music
Vogel focuses on the creative process that is Michael Jackson. It’s rare to find since most books often focus on the artist’s controversial life. Vogel looks at the development and critique of each album (and their songs) throughout his solo career. We go through the ups and downs of Michael Jackson's career and life, the music in his mind, the world, and how he worked to convey his music to the world. It’s really well written. Listening to MJ, when you really LISTEN, you’re not just listening to a singer. You are listening to a true visionary in the industry. You are listening to a man with great passion and talent. IMO, MJ breathes life into a song and makes you feel it like no other musical artist can or ever will. All I can say is that MJ is a multidimensional singer (more a storyteller) who appeals to everyone, from metalheads to jazz lovers and that his music truly is escapism. That’s why his music and its accompanying videography will remain timeless. That’s why he will forever be dubbed the King of Pop Rock and Soul. Michael’s success in experimentation beyond any genre really surpasses others who try to experiment. No doubt, MJ studied the greats and has now become one of the greatest. In later years, the music industry truly overlooked his ability, but I don’t know if the music industry will ever surpass the pure brilliance of Michael Jackson. I don’t think a “pop” artist will ever captivate our attention and ears the way Michael Jackson still does even to this day. While MJ’s adult discography is not that large, the quality is profound and distinguished. It is the result of a hard worker and perfectionist. I miss him and I’ve been listening to Michael all my life and this book is a very much necessary guide to getting an in-depth look at a musical genius. I recommend it for any MJ or music fan.
QUESTION
I hate to give this book a review without reading it yet. I read the preview, which I love that they have this in Amazon, and it looks really good!! However, I am concerned - the author did a wonderful article earlier this year as the latest controversy was breaking (don't want to speak too much about it), but then as time went on he sounded too on the fence about Michael and mentioned updating his writing. Does this book speak in support or even supposed or possible guilt on Michael's part regarding the allegations against him? If so, I can delete my review because I haven't read the book, but I just won't buy it. Thank you.
Great.
